I have asked ESRI about the possibility of getting some perpetual licenses so we can continue using ArcMap but they have been pretty clear that no new ArcMap licenses would be issued. We shall see. I promise. One thing I strongly encourage anyone that is migrating over to ArcGIS Pro to do is verify your hardware. ArcGIS Pro has much larger hardware requirements than ArcMap. Don?t assume that just because you have no issues running ArcMap that the same will be true for Pro. Here are my recommendations for Pro. These are based not only on what Esri recommends but my experience running Pro since 2015 when it was first released. Power User * 6 Core or better Hyperthreaded CPU (Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 or Intel i9 or AMD Ryzen 9) * 64 GB RAM or more * NVIDIA RTX Graphics card (Esri is optimized to make use of NVIDIA Tensor Cores on their GPUs) ? RTX 3070 or Quadro RTX A4000 or better * 1 TB Nvme SSD Basic User * 4 Core or better Hyperthreaded CPU (Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 5) * 32 GB RAM or more * NVIDIA RTX Graphics card (Esri is optimized to make use of NVIDIA Tensor Cores on their GPUs) any RTX 3000 series or later should work. * 1 TB SSD You might also want to check out my ArcGIS Pro books available via Amazon. As well as some YouTube videos I have posted to the old eGIS Associates (https://www.youtube.com/@eGISAssociates) and SAM (https://www.youtube.com/@SAMCompanies) channels. I have several ArcGIS Pro how to videos on both. The ones on eGIS are on older versions, so keep that in mind. Tripp Corbin, MCP, GISP Business Development Manager ? All my exercises were in ArcGIS Desktop. It's OK for me to make new exercises in ArcGIS Pro. I spent last weekend re-making the first exercise in ArcGIS Pro. Only 6 more to go. The more unfortunate issue is the computer lab. The lab for my class was moved from Health Sciences Library (they're under construction) to Mary Gates Hall 44. I think they had ArcGIS Pro working there, and then in the beginning of the Summer, I asked them to install ArcGIS Desktop. I tested the lab last week, and of course, neither ArcGIS Pro or Desktop were working in the lab. I'm working with UWIT to solve the licensing issue for Pro in that room. All of you who are teaching this quarter, I strongly encourage to test out the computers in your classroom. BTW, I'm recommending students use CSDE remote terminal servers outside of lab, as they seem to have ArcGIS Pro figured out. I'm also suggesting students look into working at the Suzzallo Library 's GIS Lab ? my guess is that they have ArcGIS Pro working on their computers.
