On top of the usual challenges?classwork, teaching, research, deadlines?we?ve all weathered policy shifts, funding uncertainties, threats to academic stability, and a whole range of institutional injustice. It?s been chaotic, hard, and stressful. With just a couple of weeks left, I?d like to take a moment to celebrate with the people who?ve made this year meaningful: classmates, faculty, staff, collaborators, and everyone who?s shared an insightful comment, a kind gesture, or a tough conversation, especially those in our STSS, bioethics, and public health communities. *So, with that in mind, let?s gather. Eat. Laugh. Relax.* Please join me on Saturday the 14th in Shoreline for an informal, fun, celebratory get-together. We?ll have food, drinks, indoor and outdoor spaces to gather, and room for however many folks would like to come. Bring along friends, partners, colleagues?everyone is welcome. *Date & Time:* *Saturday, June 14th, Starting around 11 a.m., going into the late afternoon (~5?6 p.m.), arrive any time.* *Location:* *19015 16th Ave NE, Shoreline, WA 98155* *We have plenty of parking and are easily accessible via a short walk from the One Line (for those who would prefer, I am happy to provide rides to-and-from the Shoreline North station if needed?just let me know!)* We?ll have food options for a variety of dietary needs. You?re also welcome (but not required) to bring something to share?we?ll call it a potluck in spirit, not obligation. We might talk shop?education, research, ethics?or we might just enjoy the sunshine. Stay for a few minutes or a few hours, whatever your schedule (and social battery) allows. Kids and animals are more than welcome! For animal lovers (and avoiders): we share our home with a small old dog, a pair of rabbits, and a chicken. Feel free to interact?or not?as you prefer. If you have any questions or concerns, or need help getting here, don?t hesitate to reach out. *Email:* tibbles@uw.edu *Phone:* 206-650-3097 (calls, texts, all good) I hope to see you all on the 14th! This email is cross-posted with the Science Studies Network and the First Monday STSS reading group list.* Hi everyone, In two weeks, join us for the next First Monday STSS Reading Group on Monday, June 7, from 12:30?1:25 p.m. via Zoom. We'll be discussing pp. 38?65 of *The Structure of Scientific Revolutions* (50th Anniversary Edition) by Thomas S. Kuhn?covering Kuhn's Introduction through Chapter 3. Link to reading: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vyvbxaNylWKFxuWKzxfFt0H0RZ6ODhiV/view?usp=sharing Zoom link: If you didn't receive the calendar invitation, please email me directly to be added. The Zoom link is also pasted below. Optional: You might also read Ian Hacking?s 2012 introduction, which is included in the PDF of the 50th Anniversary edition, for his discussion of context and significant concepts: "paradigm," "paradigm shift," "incommensurability," and "world view." Kuhn?s work popularized these concepts?ways of thinking about the inner workings of science?even though, to us today, these terms are now as normal as "normal science." I'm doubling as host and co-facilitator with Leah Ceccarelli to suggest this reading, in part because it came up in our conversation on agnotology. If you haven't read the full book, you might. *The Structure* is one of the most well-known and referenced books in the STS field; it's also regularly included on lists of the most influential books of the 20th century in general. Looking forward to our conversation! Yours, Monika Monika Sengul-Jones is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
